The underwater colours of the rainbow here are a sight to be seen at any time of the year but this year has seen the return of the whaleshark – three seen in one dive, like London buses in a queue as they slurped up the plankton in the area. They were once thought to have been driven away by local over-fishing, but this proves they are on their way back as fishermen themselves have become conservationists. Special in this dive site are the Brown Daisy Coral and the Pygmy Seahorses (Hippocampus barganti), but it takes a well-trained eye to spot them as they cling on live love-birds cooing to each other among the similar-coloured coral. In this area you are almost guaranteed to see shoals of Sergeant Major fish, Black Damsel fish and occasionally banded sea snakes: although these are venomous, they have small mouths and have not been known to attack divers. However, do watch out for the Lion fish and the Scorpion fish – their sting is not just in their tail! | |||||||||||
