waterfalls in Antequera and the rice fields of western Bohol. We
recommend this trip for a rented motorcycle. However, taxis are also
available. The roads to Antequera are in relatively good condition, but
from then on, depending upon the season, the surface can be a little
uneven. This route promises pure adventure. The running time to
Antequera amounts to about 1 hour. From Antequera to Calape a further
hour and return to Alona Beach requires another 1.5 hours. The
effective travel time thus amounts to about 3.5 hours. But the trip is
definitely worthwhile. The journey takes us from Alona Beach to Tagbilaran. From there we travel along the main street towards Cortes in the south-west of Bohol. Just beyond
Cortes we turn off into the countryside towards Antequera. After about
1 hour we will see the sign post for the waterfalls at Antequera. After
a sunny and somewhat dusty journey it is a luxury to cool off in the
cool, clear mountain pools of the waterfall. The more adventurous of
you can climb up the 6 meters to the top of the waterfall and jump into
the cool, refreshing pool below. An absolutely unforgettable
experience. Please remember to bring your bathing suit and towels with
you. From this mountain oasis, the journey continues north. Shortly after Antequera, we
reach a crossing where we turn off to the left towards Tubigon. It is
here that Bohol's beautiful landscapes of rice fields and terraces
begin. One can observe the farmers plowing their rice fields with a
water buffalo or watch the rice harvest. Because of the favourable
climate , the rice is cultivated and harvested all year round. Further
along , we reach an area where sumptuous palms, orchids, bananas and
coconut plantations cover the landscape. The freshly harvested rice is
spread along the road to dry. In this section of Bohol one is at peace
with the tranquility, the landscape, and the people. The panorama of
the rice fields and the feeling of freedom on the motorcycle is an
unforgettable adventure. After we depart the valley, we turn left at Calape onto the coast road back towards Tagbilaran. Beverages
and snacks are easily available enroute, but it is advisable to bring
sun cream, spare film, and your bathing suit with you. | |
